Southampton have made four signings in the winter transfer window so far, as they look to hang on to hope of staying in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether the new signings make an impact quickly or not, but the Saints have now made a very clear decision about the future of a key player.
Polish journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk has reported on the situation of Southampton defender Jan Bednarek, who has played 23 times in all competitions for the club this season and has been a regular in the Premier League.
The journalist claims Serie A giants AS Roma came forward for the 28-year-old centre-back. The Giallorossi offered a transfer fee of €8m plus bonuses in a permanent deal, but Southampton rejected the approach firmly.
This led to Roma moving for Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson, who is now set to join the Italian side on an initial loan deal.
Southampton are now expected to keep 28-year-old Bednarek at St Mary’s on deadline day. The defender played the full 90 minutes on Saturday, as Ivan Juric’s side beat Ipswich Town.
