Following Celtic’s unfortunate exit from the Champions League on Tuesday evening, the major talking point was how unfortunate Brendan Rodgers’ side had been.

Nicolas Kühn fired Celtic ahead and a late save from Kasper Schmeichel was then agonisingly put into the back of the net by Alphonso Davies, putting the Scottish Premiership side out of the competition.

Celtic have been praised by the German media for their approach to the game and then their performance in it, with them in agreement over Brendan Rodgers’ side being unlucky.

However, there’s another talking point and it’s related to a late decision from Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany. He’s not getting the best press generally because it’s felt his team played poorly and that was a reflection him.

In addition, he brought Thomas Müller on with just 24 seconds of the match against Celtic left and that’s being seen as a lack of respect.

German football legend Lothar Matthäus is never slow to come forward with his opinions and is quoted by Sky Deutschland as saying: “This is humiliating. It made me sad and I feel sorry for him. I was shocked.

“Thomas Müller doesn’t have to put himself through that. He is one of the greatest and most successful players of all time. So for those few seconds, the coach can take another player. If that is the perspective for the future, then he should do something else. I don’t think he enjoyed it. For what? So that he can be credited with another Champions League appearance? I would have felt stupid if I were him.”
