New Everton manager Frank Lampard wants to sign Luka Jovic from Real Madrid, but their efforts have been rebuffed by the club and player.

That’s according to journalist Edu Aguirre, who says that ‘both Ancelotti and the Serbian’ have ‘said no’ to the move this afternoon.

Reports in England have indicated that Everton are keen on the striker as they move to tie up several signings on deadline day of the January transfer window.

The reports in England provided no information on whether Real Madrid were willing to sanction a deal, but it seems they are not.

Aguirre reports that Lampard ‘wants Jovic now’ at Everton, but both Carlo Ancelotti and the striker have said no ‘at this moment in time’.

The latter part of that suggests Everton might try to talk them around and could be successful, but that is very much us reading between the lines.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Real Madrid had ruled out an exit for Jovic as they wanted him as back up to Karim Benzema, should he get injured or be out for an extended period.

It’s hard to imagine that stance has changed, given Benzema is currently out injured with a problem linked to fatigue.

Madrid, then, need a replacement for the Frenchman in the coming months and it’s hard to see them sanctioning a departure for Jovic with that in mind.
