The Brazilian press is now consistently publishing articles regarding the chase of European clubs for Flamengo midfielder Gerson.
It first started with reports from Goal claiming that Tottenham made a €18m bid for the player, and that was turned down by the Rio de Janeiro side.
Then Fox Sports and Globo both said Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are in talks for the signing, and should make a bid very soon.
Now ESPN Brasil journalist Jorge Nicola is another one bringing updates, and there’s very interesting information on his Youtube channel.
He claims that all the information comes from Gerson’s dad, Marcão. It’s said Tottenham have indeed offered €18m for the midfielder, but Flamengo won’t open talks for less than €30m.
Marcão has been called by two agents who asked for authorisation to negotiate the player’s transfer with European clubs, one from Germany and one from England. Nicola says he ‘believes’ the one in England is Kia Joorabchian.
In Globo’s report, the agent named was Giuliano Bertolucci, who’s known to be a partner of Kia Joorabchian. So it all makes sense.
Nicola says that Frank Lampard has already approved Gerson’s arrival at Chelsea, and the signing is currently being analysed by Marina Granovskaia.
And despite claims from Globo saying official offers should arrive at Flamengo next week, perhaps these clubs don’t need to rush to get Gerson.
According to Jorge Nicola, who has also been informed by the player’s father, there’s a clause in the contract which says Flamengo must pay Roma 10% of a transfer in case they sell him before the 12th of July.
So they may hold the negotiations to make a bigger profit.
