Edinson Cavani to Atletico Madrid is wobbling.
The Spanish club have been presented as the PSG player’s most likely destination throughout January, because it’s a deal which makes sense for both the player and his prospective new club.
Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked, although there’s never appeared anything especially strong for either Premier League club.
Cavani wants Atletico and the rojiblancos need the Uruguayan, however, PSG aren’t convinced. They have the player on a contract lasting until June and were expected to be more flexible.
Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe reports a new €15m Atletico offer has been rejected by PSG, and this questions the motives of the French side and whether they’re actually willing to do business.
There’s been a nervousness around the Paris club about potentially selling Cavani and then facing him in the latter rounds of the competition and facing European embarrassment again.
Chelsea get a mention and it’s stated ‘Frank Lampard crosses his fingers’, before L’Equipe point out the Stamford Bridge club have the same issue as Atletico… being in the Champions League.
Manchester United wouldn’t have that problem, but this time they’re not grouped with Chelsea. It feels like the French newspaper are giving Lampard hope, although not a great deal of it.
Inter Miami are credited with interest and L’Equipe believe PSG would rather send Cavani ‘to the other side of the Atlantic’. That doesn’t sound very respectful given what he’s given them over the years.
