Troy Parrott lacks ‘cold-bloodedness’ and proved as much despite the 1-0 win over Tottenham in the Europa League this week.

That’s according to journalist Wim Kieft, via Soccer News, who singled the striker out for criticism despite AZ Alkmaar’s big win over Tottenham on Thursday.

Parrott has been impressing for Alkmaar this season after joining from Tottenham in a €4m deal in the summer, with 17 goals and three assists in 39 games to date.

He is very much proving his credentials in the Netherlands after failing to make the grade at Tottenham, where he had been since 2017 after arriving as a youngster from Belvedere FC.

He only managed four appearances in the first team, though, instead spending most of his time at the club out on loan before departing permanently last summer.

The game this week was his big opportunity to prove his point, but he passed that up, failing to convert when given a one-on-one with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

He’s admitted since that he knows he should have scored in that moment, publically beating himself up over the missed chance despite his side winning 1-0 anyway. Kieft, though, isn’t letting him off and thinks the striker is missing something key.

“AZ has a serious chance of reaching the quarter finals and could have already taken an advance on that if Troy Parrott simply takes advantage of his chances,” he said.

“He remains a doubter in the forward position, someone you cannot count on when it comes to finishing.

“Against Heerenveen, he also missed two huge chances that ultimately cost AZ dearly. Parrott is an industrious player, reasonably good on the ball and reasonable in combination, but lacks cold-bloodedness.”
