With a change of system being implemented by Pablo Machin at Sevilla, the focus of their summer will be to restructure the defence.

Estadio Deportivo in Spain believe one of their targets is Newcastle’s Florian Lejeune, who knows Spanish football well having played there on and off since 2011 following his move from Istres to Villarreal.

Arriving from Eibar last summer, the Magpies’ defender, barring a spell out of the side in December and January, was a regular under Rafa Benitez last season, and it seems unlikely the Premier League side would be willing to let him go so soon.

Sevilla know that, with a contract keeping him at St James’ Park until 2022, signing him will be difficult, and Estadio Deportivo believe their first offer will be around €10m, knowing full well Newcastle most likely won’t accept it, but it would get the negotiations underway.

On top of his knowledge of La Liga, Lejeune also knows Pablo Machin extremely well, having spent two seasons under him at Eibar prior to his move to the north of England.

The local outlet state Lejeune wouldn’t be against a move to Sevilla should it present itself, but first, the two clubs will need to sort something out.
