Barcelona star Thomas Vermaelen could be leaving the Catalan giants this summer.
According to Spanish newspaper AS on Thursday, Vermaelen has offers from two clubs on his table at the moment – AS Roma and Liverpool.
Luis Enrique has already made it clear to the Belgian that he won’t be first choice at the club after the arrival of Samuel Umtiti. Indeed, he could be as far back as fifth choice.
Apparently, Vermaelen had a meeting with Barcelona recently, and both the parties have decided to take another week to evaluate the options.
AS believe not many clubs are interested in matching Barcelona’s valuation of Vermaelen and that could be an issue.
Reports in the Italian media suggest AS Roma are in constant contact with Barcelona to sign Vermaelen, but the Spanish media refuse to give up on the idea of the player returning to the Premier League.
If Vermaelen does have an offer on the table from Liverpool, as claimed, then he probably shouldn’t wait too long.
