Middlesbrough announced the signing of Bernardo Espinosa, recently from Sporting Gijon and the Spanish side could now try to sign a former Middlesbrough player to replace the Colombian defender.

According to Spanish website El Desmarque, Sporting have offered a three-year contract to Fernando Amorebieta, who spent the last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

The 31-year-old could leave Fulham this summer, with just one-year left on his contract.

Fulham, however, want a fee for the player, and that could make things difficult for Sporting.

The Venezuelan is one of the highest earners at Fulham, and has been loaned twice to Middlesbrough, so we won’t be surprised if they’d want to offload him.

Amorebieta made 27 appearances for Fulham and Middlesbrough in the Championship last season.
