Every few days or so Riyad Mahrez pops up in the Spanish media, usually linked to Barcelona, and the story almost always is that he’d like a Leicester City exit, and Barcelona are interested… but not interested enough to do anything about it.
Sport say Barcelona spoke to the player’s representatives last summer, and were then met with a flat refusal from Leicester City. There’s still interest, but it’s unlikely Barcelona would happily pay the asking price Leicester are likely to put forward.
Mahrez may be a back-up option for Barcelona. So, if they fail to get other targets, they can move for the player, on two conditions.
Firstly, that Mahrez accepts he’d largely play a back-up role, and secondly that Leicester accept what Barca would deem a reasonable fee.
Right now, despite there being interest on both sides, this one doesn’t look very likely.
