Maybe it’s time for Everton to be convinced to pay enough to take Yacine Brahimi from Porto.
Much linked to the player in the past two markets, the Toffees were never able to find an agreement with the Portuguese side, who were demanding too much money for the transfer.
Brahimi has indeed lived some doubtful form this season. During the end of the summer market, he wasn’t even training with the first team squad as Porto’s intention was to sell him.
Things were better in January, but not enough to convince other clubs to make such an investment.
But things have gone quite well recently, and there’s almost daily praise in the local Portuguese media.
Newspaper O Jogo conducted a poll of fans this week and Brahimi was picked as the Man Of The Season.
Of course, being a Northern newspaper, the result would favour a player from a club of that region, but it’s still impressive to see how the Porto fans are currently in love with him.
With one goal and two assists in the past two games, Brahimi has been crucial for Porto in the race for the Portuguese league and is one of the club’s biggest hopes to reach the Champions League quarter finals.
The player used to be available for a reasonable amount in past markets, but his form is something that could change this scenario.
At the beginning of this month it was reported in Algeria that clubs such as Everton could get Brahimi for as little as €18m to €20m in the summer but if he keeps up his purple patch that’s doubtful.
Brahimi has a €60m release clause, and Porto felt protected by it last summer and may do again this year. Ronald Koeman clearly showed an interest in the player and the Everton manager will be well aware of Brahimi’s current form.
