Sunderland’s attempts to sign Domagoj Vida have been unsuccessful in at least one transfer window, but they’re not the only Premier League club showing an interest in the player.

The Dynamo Kyiv defender is catching the eye of Ronald Koeman and Everton, at least according to Calciomercato. Vida has been linked with a handful of Premier League clubs previously, and Everton’s interest is said to be at the consideration stage rather than going forward with an offer.

At 27 years of age, Vida is experienced both in European competition and for Croatia, there’d be no issues with a work permit. Sunderland were said to have been against paying more than £6m for the player last summer, but David Moyes had him watched again ahead of the January transfer window.

Sunderland’s £6m was never likely to be successful last summer, with Vida being worth more and having two years left on his contract at the time.

It’s not certain Vida would have accepted a move to Sunderland anyway, with the danger of relegation potentially having an impact on his international career.

Everton would be a different matter altogether, and Koeman interest wouldn’t be a surprise. Vida’s contract with Dynamo Kyiv ends in June 2018, putting the club under pressure to sell this summer should they not get a renewal.

The Croatian can play in central defence, or either fullback position, giving versatile strength to the squad. Additionally, Vida looks at least a little mean, always an added bonus for a defender.
