With all the public pettiness going on at Barcelona, with Joan Laporta doing almost dictator style videos from his desk and Ronald Koeman springing pre-written statements during press conferences, it’s no wonder the results on the pitch are affected.
It seems the club president wants rid of the Dutchman, who was appointed by the previous regime, but the former Everton manager clearly believes he can turn things around, and so they are currently going head to head.
Sacking Koeman would be costly, which one of the reasons why Laporta hasn’t done it yet, but what could push him away sooner rather than later is the fact he’s also lost the dressing room.
That’s according to Cuatro, who state the Barcelona player ‘have stopped believing in Ronald Koeman’, having ‘lost the little support he had left in the dressing’, meaning ‘his dismissal is a matter of days’.
In fact, Laporta ‘has accelerated the search for a replacement’ as the big names in the team ‘do not share Koeman’s pessimistic and victimising discourse’.
The president doesn’t either, and while he understand ‘the squad is not at the highest level’, he also can’t wrap his head around the fact the team ‘do not fight until the end on the pitch’.
We’ll have to see what comes of all this, but it seems the Barcelona manager is heading towards an early exit, regardless of how much that would cost the club.
