Liverpool wanted to complete the signing of Nabil Fekir in the summer transfer window and they had agreed a fee with Lyon for the transfer.
Earlier in June, the Merseyside club completed the 25-year-old’s medical tests in France, where he was preparing for the 2018 World Cup campaign with Les Bleus.
Several reports suggested the Premier League side tried to renegotiate the price tag after his medical, which resulted in the Ligue 1 outfit walking away from the deal.
Lyon manager Bruno Génési revealed the World Cup winner was sad after his move to Anfield collapsed, but hailed him for the manner in which he overcame the disappointment.
Fekir came off the bench in his side’s 2-0 win over Strasbourg on Friday and after the match he spoke to Foot Mercato, where he admitted that he is unaware as to why his move to Liverpool did not take shape.
“Yes, the failed transfer to Liverpool is totally digested. It’s history now. These are the things that happen. It’s like that. You need to move forward. I heard several things. The real reason, only [Liverpool] they know it,” Fekir explained.
