Following the 5-1 win over Club Brugge last night, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had an exclusive chat with Brazilian outlet TNT Sports.

Besides the many questions about the game and the club’s start to the season, reporter Caldeira asked the coach about Kayky, who joined the squad this summer following a move from Fluminense.

The 18-year-old has trained with the first team squad, and as he waits to make his debut in English football, Guardiola has praised the qualities he’s shown so far.

“He’s just arrived. Had some knee problems. He’s training with us, getting to know us, getting to know English football,” Guardiola told TNT Sports.

“He’s very young. We know of his talent, otherwise he wouldn’t have come, or City wouldn’t have signed him. He’s very smart, very prepared. Fernandinho talks to him a lot, our captains take care of things a lot, that’s why Fernandinho is a jewel.

“Little by little he will be integrated, he will try to have matches for the second team, seek rhythm. And soon his performances will decide what to do.”

Kayky’s transfer to Manchester City was originally supposed to happen in January 2022, but since Fluminense’s season turned out to be disappointing and his form wasn’t great, the clubs decided to bring the move forward.

The striker was part of a double deal in which the City Group also signed midfielder Metinho from the Rio de Janeiro side. Unlike Kayky, the other teenager first headed to Troyes before getting any chances to prove himself to Guardiola.
