Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Champions League game against Legia Warsaw due to an injury. Campbell has been progressing well in Portugal and Arsene Wenger will have enjoyed the chance to see the 24 year old in Europe’s premier competition.
Sporting have officially said the player has a knee sprain, there’s no definitive answer on how serious the situation is and how long Campbell will be out. A lengthy absence would be a further disappointment to Wenger and Arsenal, especially given that Campbell has been doing well.
Leaving in the summer because he was unable to fight past the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck, the emergence of Alex Iwobi also caused further problems for Campbell. Arsene Wenger has a good selection of choices right now in the positions Campbell operates best in.
According to Record, Campbell was injured in a training session and is also set to miss the derby match against Benfica next weekend.
The Benfica match would have been another good chance for Wenger, and any clubs interested in buying the Arsenal player, to see Campbell given a tough test.
The player is set to be examined every day before Sunday’s match, a game not only very important due to the rivalry, but also because it’s Sporting’s chance to go top of the table, as they’re two points behind the Eagles.
With 14 appearances this season, Campbell has been an important player for the squad.
