Liverpool will have to do without Virgil van Dijk for most or all of this season after the defender suffered a serious injury earlier this month.
Jürgen Klopp has used Fabinho in the heart of his side’s back four in the last few games.
The Merseyside club’s injury crisis worsened after the Brazil international picked up an injury in Liverpool’s Champions League victory over FC Midtjylland on Tuesday.
Fabinho was replaced by Rhys Williams in the 30th minute. Esporte Interativo interviewed Klopp after the European tie and the manager took a dig at Tite for not giving the former AS Monaco star regular opportunities with Brazil.
“I’m not sure if Tite is worried because he never plays him. I don’t know, so he will probably not sit on the bench for the next three international games,” Yahoo Esportes quoted Klopp as saying.
Since the start of last season, Fabinho has been regularly called up for the national team and he has gone on to make only one start for Brazil, which came in their 3-0 friendly win over South Korea in November 2019.
The 27-year-old hasn’t featured in a competitive fixture for Seleção during the above mentioned period.
Meanwhile, Klopp has stressed Fabinho’s latest injury setback is a “blow” for the Premier League winners
“But, for us it’s a proper blow. At this moment, we don’t know. Fab was not positive, but not negative as well. So we will see. We have to wait for a scan tomorrow morning and [then] we will know more,” the German explained.
