When it comes to Timo Werner and Liverpool’s interest in him, you would think the German media would be the ones with the latest information, but no, it’s Italy and France, apparently.
Both Gazzetta dello Sport and Le10 Sport have reports on the subject on Tuesday, and we’ll go through them to let you know what they’re saying.
We’ll start with the Italians, who look at it from Inter’s perspective, as Antonio Conte’s side are also keen on signing the RB Leipzig star.
They explain what we already all know, which is that Liverpool have been looking at Werner for some time, but the ‘uncertainties’ surrounding the Premier League these days ‘aren’t allowing the Reds to sink the deal’.
There’s also mention of the release clause, currently at €60m, but that could end up being reduced to €50m.
It’s made clear off the bat that Werner is ‘one of the great priorities’ for the German manager when it comes to the summer transfer window.
Klopp has allegedly decided to ‘personally involve’ himself in the process by ‘calling him a number of times’ in order to explain his project and ambitions for the striker.
The bottom line is, if Liverpool were to let one of their attacking trio leave, such as Sadio Mané or Mohamed Salah, then Werner will be the ‘lucky winner’ of that free spot.
We’re not there yet, however, so until there’s movement on the sales end, it seems we might not see anything for Werner.
