Everton’s latest search for a new manager ultimately saw them appoint Frank Lampard, with a gentle wave of optimism washing over Goodison Park as hope builds for a better future.
Prior to appointing the former Derby County and Chelsea boss, Everton had made approaches for several others, and conducted interviews.
One of the men involved was Vítor Pereira, who works with agent Kia Joorabchian.
Some Everton fans were unhappy with the prospect of Pereira getting the position, partly because of his links with the agent and a worry that Joorabchian would have too much control over the Toffees.
Pereira didn’t help himself by granting an unusual interview to Sky, in which he spoke of his meetings with Everton and probably revealed more than he should have.
That seemed to be the nail in the coffin for his chances.
Joorabchian is still trying to find a new job for his client, and wants the manager to take a position in Europe, report Globo Esporte. Pereira had been linked to Corinthians, but the agent has talked down the chances, as he believes there’s a ‘big market’ for the manager in the European game.
After sharing his plans for Pereira, Globo Esporte quote him as saying about the Corinthians role: “Today that’s not easy. The whole world is short of coaches, we need the next generation to grow, nothing to do with Brazil. It is a general problem.”
