Besides losing the Madrid derby 1-0 on Saturday, Atlético fans had even more negative news after the match.

The club have now released a statement revealing that striker Alvaro Morata has picked up a muscle injury on his right leg, and should be sidelined for a while.

According to Cadena Cope (via Mundo Deportivo), Morata could be out for two weeks, and while he could return in time for when Atlético Madrid play Liverpool in the Champions League’s round-of-16, it could be a big risk to rush him and might still sit out the first leg.

With 10 goals in 26 matches this season, the Spaniard has been the Colchonero’s main striker, and his absence is seen as a big blow for the club.

The good news for Atlético is that Diego Costa could be back by then.

He’s been out with an herniated disc since November, but is close on getting back to the team, perhaps even in time for the match against the Reds.

Atlético are playing Liverpool in Madrid on February 18, with the second leg being hosted at Anfield Road on the 3rd of March.
