Late last week, news that AS Roma were interested in Granit Xhaka started to emerge.
The Italian press all corroborated the fact that José Mourinho was a big fan of the Arsenal midfielder, and talks were underway regarding a transfer.
A first offer had been made, but it was short of the Gunners’ €25m demands, which remain the same to this day.
Corriere dello Sport look at the situation on Tuesday, making it clear the bid didn’t ‘satisfy’ the London club, with the two parties ‘soon to try and find an agreement at €18m’.
As for the player in all this, it’s stated he is ‘tired of playing for Arsenal and ready for a new challenge’, with the Serie A side and Mourinho seemingly on his radar to do just that.
The Portuguese manager ‘appreciates’ the player’s ‘confidence and determination’, although there is a seemingly backup plan should this fail in Nahitan Nández.
Certainly one that will run its course over the next couple of weeks if previous negotiations between Premier League and Serie A sides are anything to go by, but this appears to have a fair amount of fire fuelling all the smoke.
