Having been largely forgotten about by the world of football for some time, Tuesday morning appears to belong to Kevin Wimmer.

Earlier today we covered a report from Germany which explained the Stoke City owned defender has turned down the chance to stay at Karlsruher SC beyond his loan spell. The German club had gone public with their desire to keep Wimmer with them in the longer term, however this morning they officially admitted he’s turned them down.

What would happen next wasn’t certain, with Wimmer contracted to Stoke for a further season, despite having no real future at the club.

Now there’s an update from Austria, with Kurier reporting the player is on the verge of a move to Rapid.

The 28-year-old wants to terminate his contract with Stoke City, which would mean no transfer fee for the Championship club but also free them from having to pay his wages over the next year.

Work is currently underway to complete that termination, which would enable Wimmer to sign for Rapid.
