On Thursday we covered claims from Italy that Tottenham are ‘very interested’ in Koray Gunter.
The report from Calciomercato.it was believable, there was an insistence of it being an exclusive, and an additional explanation of Tottenham sending scouts to watch the player in action, something it was said they’d be doing again for Genoa’s match against Napoli this weekend.
Gunter was born in Germany and came through the Borussia Dortmund system before moving to Galatasaray. The 24 year old left Gala in the summer on a free transfer, but given his Turkish background, the country’s press are very interested in his future.
Therefore, the Italian claims about Tottenham soon ended up all around Turkey.
But there’s been a twist.
Milliyet, Fanatik and others say it’s been alleged Spurs have already agreed a deal to sign the player.
There’s noting in Italy, and certainly not from the original source, which would lend weight to an agreed deal, and the English media doesn’t appear to have taken it so far either.
There’s a chance the Turkish media have become over excited, or that someone close to the player is pushing the story.
