Heavily criticised on Thursday night during Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Feyenoord in the Europa League, Paul Pogba hasn’t exactly hit the ground running at his new/old club.

The 23-year-old was rather anonymous against the Dutch side, and criticism aimed towards his transfer fee has naturally started to appear, if it hadn’t started doing so already.

Of course, with a great transfer fee comes great expectations that the player is yet to meet, although there’s a feeling it’s only a matter of time before it all clicks.

One man who wasn’t surprised about Pogba’s transfer fee, however, was Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, who was interviewed by Corriere dello Sport for their Friday edition.

He said: “United are a solid team. They invested that much in him because they saw the potential of making the money back and more in a relatively short amount of time. It’s his salary we should rather be talking about. With those numbers, Italian clubs cannot compete.”

The lack of money in other leagues compared to the Premier League has been a talking point in the foreign media for quite some time, but that hasn’t stopped some of the teams in those leagues from making some rather big transfers.

We’re pretty sure Gonzalo Higuain isn’t on pennies at Juventus, for example…
