Given that Luis Enrique has now let the cat out of the bag and confirmed he won’t stay at Barcelona beyond the end of the current season, the rumours about his successor are getting into full swing.
Even before the announcement there had been months of suggestions in the Spanish media about who could be the new coach, with Sevilla’s Jorge Sampaoli and Athletic Club Bilbao’s Ernesto Valverde pinpointed for a while as the likeliest candidates.
Sport name Sampaoli, Valverde and former Barcelona assistant Juan Carlos Unzué as possibilities, before making their way to Klopp. The Liverpool’s manager’s best patch with Dortmund is pinpointed as the reason for any interest, which is no surprise given the form of Klopp’s current team.
In all honesty it looks like Sport are dragging names out of anywhere and Klopp was picked to make up the numbers. The German manager has been gifted a whole load of goodwill at Liverpool, and by the English media, but he’s not really done well enough to attract the interest of Barcelona.
