Given that Luis Enrique has now let the cat out of the bag and confirmed he won’t stay at Barcelona beyond the end of the current season, the rumours about his successor are getting into full swing.

Even before the announcement there had been months of suggestions in the Spanish media about who could be the new coach, with Sevilla’s Jorge Sampaoli and Athletic Club Bilbao’s Ernesto Valverde pinpointed for a while as the likeliest candidates.

Other managers have and will be brought into the equation, and one of those, at least for Catalan newspaper Sport on Thursday, is Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool manager has been linked with Barcelona previously, when he was riding high at Borussia Dortmund, but Klopp isn’t one of the names recently repeatedly linked.

In all honesty it looks like Sport are dragging names out of anywhere and Klopp was picked to make up the numbers. The German manager has been gifted a whole load of goodwill at Liverpool, and by the English media, but he’s not really done well enough to attract the interest of Barcelona.
