Phillipe Coutinho was dreaming of a return to Liverpool this summer but saw the idea shot down by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Brazilian was keen on the return to Anfield after his torrid spell at the Camp Nou.
Coutinho has endured a difficult time in Spain since making a £121m move to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018.
The Catalan giants are keen to move him on this summer as they look to recoup some of what they paid for him and get his massive wages off the books in the process.
Finding suitors has proven hard, though, with few clubs willing to offer up cash or accommodate his wage demands either.
According to Sport, Coutinho’s ‘initial dream’ was to return to Liverpool, where he managed 54 goals and 45 assists in 201 games under Brendan Rodgers and later Klopp.
However, a potential return was quickly shot down by Klopp, who has ‘closed the door on him’ after his move to Barcelona three years ago.
This is something we’ve seen before, with the German boss also reportedly blocking a return to Anfield last year as well.
It seems the Liverpool manager is not particularly keen on a reunion with the Brazilian, leaving Coutinho to find another option elsewhere or try and prove himself at Barcelona, neither of which are going to be particularly easy to achieve.
