Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer of 2015, when Louis van Gaal was in charge at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman was then keen on signing the defender for the Red Devils, but Ramos made a U-turn and signed a new five-year deal with Los Blancos. That contract is set to expire at the end of this season.
Reports from Spain have explained the ongoing conflict between the 35-year-old and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
The La Liga winners reportedly state they have offered a two-year deal to the centre-back, but his camp have denied receiving any proposal from the club.
Writing in today’s AS, journalist Tomás Roncero claims Real Madrid fans will be the ‘sore loser’ of the conflict between Pérez and the player.
Roncero tells the two parties to keep aside their differences and consider what will happen from July 1st, when Ramos could move to Paris, Manchester or any other destination, where ‘logically they will receive a player of his level with a red carpet’.
Bayern Munich’s David Alaba is touted to be Ramos’ successor at the Santiago Bernabéu. Roncero has urged the Real Madrid chief to not replicate the same mistake he did by letting Cristiano Ronaldo leave.
Eden Hazard was signed as a potential replacement for Ronaldo, but the Belgian has been a total disappointment for the Madrid club.
The journalist also issued a warning to Ramos about leaving Real Madrid for the likes of Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain.
According to Roncero, a move to Old Trafford or Parc des Princes will see the Spaniard ‘earn more money’, but he will not be able to achieve the ‘legend status’ that he currently has at Real Madrid.
He claims Ramos ‘will never touch the glory nor will he be the legend that he is at Real Madrid’.
It’s to be noted Roncero is sharing his opinion, using Manchester United and PSG as an example, to warn Ramos from leaving Zinedine Zidane’s side.
