Gennaro Gattuso to Wolves just won’t go away, in the Italian media at least.
For over a month the Napoli manager has been linked with the Premier League club, despite there being no serious suggestions Nuno Espirito Santo will be leaving Wolves in the near future.
The English club haven’t had a season to build on their last one, despite investment in the summer, yet it’s not been a complete disaster and there are firm reasons for their struggles.
Wolves ended last season later than the vast majority of their rivals and therefore didn’t have a real preseason. They’ve also faced the serious injury to Raul Jimenez, and struggled to make up for the Mexican’s absence.
Despite all of that, the Italian media are convinced Wolves are keen on Gattuso, in claims which appear to be coming from close to the Naples club.
Ciro Venerato, a very well known journalist who specialises in all things Napoli, has been quoted by Napoli Magazine as saying: “I know for sure that Gattuso is on the radar of Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Roma and Wolverhampton in the Premier League.”
The manager has been working with Jorge Mendes, which no doubt helps the links, but as Wolves fans know as well as anyone, Espirito Santo was the agent’s first client so the link there is clearly stronger.
