With Palmeiras’ main sponsor set to become the club’s new president in 2022, the Brazilian side have been surrounded by transfer rumours, especially now that they won the Copa Libertadores.
The latest name to be linked to the Verdão is Everton defender Yerry Mina. That’s where he played between 2016 and 2018, before moving to Europe, and reports now said he could be going back there.
The claims were made by TV Band reporter Sandro Barboza. He wrote on Twitter that Palmeiras are currently ‘in negotiations’ for the Toffees’ player.
However, as other outlets went after this story, they ended up learning that Mina’s return to the Allianz Parque is actually quite unlikely at this stage.
The first to react were Palmeiras Online. They managed to speak to someone ‘close to the board’ and ‘confirmed’ that Mina’s name wasn’t even considered. It’s said the new management have other positions as their priority and didn’t even start searching for players in the market yet.
Speaking to sources at Palmeiras, he learned that their priority is a striker, also looking for a right-back and a midfielder, so the search for a defender doesn’t sound like a major topic at the club right now.
