Chelsea have become the latest club to have interest in Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino, according to Spanish journalist Roberto Gómez.

He shared this information to Radio Marca, and another journalist, Pablo Barea, relayed this on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Gómez says the 28-year-old is ‘about to leave’ La Real and make a switch to the Premier League, where Chelsea are ‘very interested’ in securing his services this summer.

The journalist further adds that he has found out the midfielder ‘could leave to Chelsea’. That’s all he has to say about the Blues’ reported interest in the Spain international.

Merino has a year left on his deal and several claims from the Spanish press have insisted that he hasn’t accepted the renewal offer proposed by the La Liga side. It has also been reported Real Sociedad intend to cash in from his sale in this window.

Gómez’s report about Chelsea’s interest isn’t backed up by other publications in Spain so far.

Arsenal, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have shown keen interest in the former Newcastle United man. Last Friday, Sport suggested Real Sociedad could sell Merino for a fee of around €30-35m.
