Barely a day goes by of late in which Manchester City aren’t linked with a young, foreign talent from somewhere across the globe.
The Premier League champions have made it their aim to hoover up talent from around the world, and that has seen numerous rumours in recent months.
One of those linked was Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás de la Cruz, with the initial reports suggesting they could end up paying his €22m release clause.
It was later claimed they were in ‘advanced’ talks with the midfielder, although the whole situation was looking complicated.

However, TNT journalist Nicolás Distasio has poured cold water on the rumours, insisting there have not been any offers from the Etihad as yet.
“Nothing was received (by River Plate),” he claimed.
“They (River) think the interest will be real, but they don’t have much expectation of what they (Manchester City) can offer the club.”
That would suggest the previous reports of Manchester City being in advanced talks were a little wide of the mark at this stage.
The interest is seemingly there, and River have even acknowledged it, but it’s not gone further than that at this stage.
Instead, De la Cruz appears to be one of the many young players that City are keeping their eye on as they continue to expand their football network.
