Since David Moyes left Everton in 2013, it’s no exaggeration to say that the Blues have had something of a turbulent experience with managers.
The Scot was in charge at Goodison Park for 11 years, but in the years since his departure, nobody has come close to matching that.
Roberto Martínez started brightly before tailing off, Ronald Koeman was a disaster, and the less said about Sam Allardyce, the better.
Marco Silva also showed promise before being sacked and replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, who Everton will be hoping proves to be the long-term appointment they’re in desperate need of.
Every time there’s been a change at the club a whole list of names have been linked with the vacant position, most of them bad but some of them good.
Ralf Rangnick was regularly among those listed as potential targets, with many believing the German, who is considered as one of the catalysts for RB Leipzig’s rise in recent years, as someone who could help rebuild the Toffees.
That ultimately never happened, although according to Bild journalist Stefan Krause, there was contact at some point in the past.
The German is rumoured to be set to join AC Milan, and when questioned about it, Krause revealed the interest from Everton, although failed to mention the time period.
“We have known about the negotiations on both sides (with Milan) for about two months,” he told MilanNews.it
“The situation is the same that we reported in January: Milan want Rangnick, and the German coach is very interested in the AC Milan project.
“Negotiations are still ongoing with Rangnick who is looking for a new challenge because it is more than obvious that he is not satisfied with his role as only a Red Bull club consultant.
“He has always wanted to work in a foreign state, especially in England and in the Premier League but in the past concrete offers have never arrived, only some contact with Everton.
“Even if it is not England, he will go to Milan and therefore not the worst of the destinations. Rangnick has a strong character and is very ambitious and for this he needs total powers in the club. “
