Journalist and Aston Villa fan Stefaan Lammens has backed summer signing Marvelous Nakamba to be a success at Villa Park.

Nakamba moved to the Midlands this summer, joining in an €11m deal from Club Brugge, joining striker Wesley Moraes in swapping the Belgian club for Aston Villa.

Unlike the Brazilian striker, he’s not been a regular for Villa boss Dean Smith at the beginning of this season, making four appearances in the Premier League as well as playing 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup.

That’s primarily due to the fact that he finds himself competing with Douglas Luiz for a starting role, with the Brazilian, signed from Manchester City this summer, another defensive midfield option for manager Dean Smith.

Lammens is positive that Nakamba will soon be a key player for the Villains though, explaining that a true defensive midfielder like him could help to get the best out of the team’s more attacking talents.

“I really think Nakamba is going to be a fixture for the club,” he told Sporza.

“In the beginning, he had some ailments, and he had to get used to the Premier League physically.

“In the last match against Norwich, you saw what the opponent tried to do. Nakamba was always among them.

“For teammates (John) McGinn and (Jack) Grealish it must have been blissful to have someone like that behind.

“In the first four matches Douglas Luiz, who was bought from Manchester City, played a bit more offensive, but defensively I suspect Nakamba will be preferred.”
