Interesting claims come from the Spanish media today, as El Desmarque links Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester City right-back João Cancelo.
They say that José Mourinho isn’t happy with the options he has for the position, and has already spoken to his compatriot about it.
Cancelo isn’t getting a lot of playing time under Pep Guardiola, and that’s something that his friend Cristiano Ronaldo warned him about, at least according to El Desmarque, before he chose to leave Juventus last summer.
Now as he ‘wants more’, there’s a chance he could join José Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur, even though Spurs are not alone in the race.
El Desmarque says Barcelona are after him as well, with the club’s board looking for a right-back to join Quique Setien at the Camp Nou. That would be Cancelo’s chance to return to La Liga.
Only after speaking about the competition, El Desmarque says Cancelo is ‘close’ to Tottenham, and that’s why Barça would have to be quick. They claim his price is about €60m.
This one needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, not least because there’s no big reporting in the Barcelona media about a potential move there.
