Roma manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as he looks to improve his midfield options this summer.
That’s according to journalist Nicolo Ceccarini, who says the Chelsea man is on a list of options that also includes Nemanja Matic.
He explains that while Mourinho is focused on securing the best end to the season as possible, he has given the club ‘important indications’ for the future.
He wants to ‘make a further leap forward’, especially in midfield and has identified the right profile of player to help him do so.
Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic is one of them, with him set to leave Old Trafford in the summer after recently confirming that’s his plan.
Mourinho is trying to convince him to move to Rome, and he would be the second signing of the summer after Mile Svilar, who has already signed a five-year deal.
Loftus-Cheek is ‘another name to be considered’, although he is also liked by Lazio, managed of course by Maurizio Sarri, who worked with the player at Chelsea.
Whether Chelsea would be open to a sale isn’t mentioned, although Loftus-Cheek has barely featured under Thomas Tuchel this season beyond the odd appearance here and there.
It’s also unclear whether the player would even want to move to Italy, but he does have interest from Roma and Lazio regardless.
