When there’s a Gareth Bale rumour in the Spanish sport media, Jose Mourinho is often part of it.
At the time the manager was in charge at Old Trafford he made it clear he’d love to sign Bale for Manchester United, but that the transfer would be difficult without an effort from the player.
Moving to Tottenham, Mourinho is at one of the Welshman’s former clubs, so the claims will inevitably continue.
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports Mourinho ‘would be delighted’ to secure the Real Madrid player for Spurs.
Madrid haven’t received any offers so far this summer, from anywhere in the world, and despite Bale recently expressing a willingness to leave, he can’t go anywhere if no club moves for him.
Mundo say Tottenham wouldn’t be willing to spend much on a transfer, and wouldn’t want to go anywhere near the level of wages Bale is currently on.
Therefore, they’d want a cheap deal, and the insinuation is they may be able to get that from Madrid, but Bale doesn’t appear keen on lowering his wages.
With a contract at Real Madrid lasting until June 2022, the Bale saga could have quite some way to go yet.
