Spain’s El Confidencial, who have been good on Real Madrid arrivals and exits in the past, on Tuesday look at the situation of Alvaro Morata. It’s explained that whatever he may say in interviews and via social media, Morata feels Zinedine Zidane has been unfair to him at Real Madrid, and he hasn’t had the playing time he expected.
That inevitably leads to speculation about an exit and, as always, Chelsea are mentioned. Antonio Conte made a move for Morata during the last summer transfer window, something which was confirmed by the player himself, but Madrid were determined to keep him.
In the coming summer window it could be very different and El Cofnidencial raise the idea of a deal which would see Morata move to Chelsea and Thibaut Courtois move to Real Madrid.
Courtois very much enjoyed his time playing for Atletico Madrid and it’s not unreasonable to think he’d grasp the chance to sign for their city rivals.
Brought in as a part of this is Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, and his determination to keep David De Gea. Mourinho wouldn’t want to lose his goalkeeper to any other club, perhaps least of all Madrid.
Mourinho’s efforts to keep De Gea at Manchester United, which could involve a new contract, make Courtois an understandable option for Madrid. If Chelsea are to lose their goalkeeper then to get Morata as part of the deal would be very pleasing for Conte.
The Italian manager has long been a big fan, and whilst Mourinho standing firm on De Gea may see Madrid move for Courtois, the end situation could be one which sits well with Conte.
