Portuguese youngster Joao Carlos Teixeira could be leaving Liverpool this summer, as it’s very unlikely he is going to accept the new contract he has been offered.
According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, there is no shortage of interest in the 23-year-old. Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina, Real Betis, and Porto are all keen on signing him.
Porto, however, are in pole position to sign Teixeira, after they offered him a long term contract.
It is reported negotiations between Teixeira’s agent Jorge Mendes and Porto are going well, and an agreement could be reached soon.
The player is currently enjoying his holidays in Spain, but has been told his future would be resolved soon.
O Jogo are optimistic about Porto’s chances of signing Teixeira, and that the player would surely reject the contract extension offer from Liverpool.
Porto, however, would have to pay Liverpool a ‘development fee’ of £250,000, if they can reach an agreement with the player.
The 23-year-old has been impressive whenever he has stepped on the pitch for Liverpool, but competition for places means he never really got a fair chance, and is probably right to leave the club for regular playing time.
