Real Betis have put Johnny Cardoso ‘in cotton wool’ as they look to get the best from him and protect him for a potential move to Tottenham in the summer.

That’s according to AS, who cover the player and how the Spanish side are protecting him between now and the end of the season.

The newspaper explains that the American ‘has an overload’ and has put ‘in cotton wool’ so that he can travel for the second of their clash in the Europa Conference League this week.

All eyes at the club are currently on the midfielder, who has been suffering from a muscle overload since the clash against Las Palmas on Sunday.

He wants to be a part of the game, but Betis don’t want to risk him, particularly ahead of the summer and his potential move to Tottenham.

They have a preferential clause on the midfielder to sign him for €25m after negotiating it as part of the deal for Giovani Lo Celso last summer.

All indications have been that they will take up that clause at some point, particularly with the issues they’ve had in central midfield this season.

Betis are certainly expecting Tottenham to come calling at some point and it seems they’re now being as careful as possible with Cardoso to ensure he’s fit for the remainder of this season but also with the summer in mind.
