It really is a Textor special after all. Danilo’s future is under discussion as Eagle Football, the company led by the American tycoon, seek a solution for the midfielder’s next step.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, the group is negotiating with Nottingham Forest to move the 24-year-old, and initial plans involved placing him at Lyon.

However, due to Ligue 1 financial restrictions affecting Lyon’s ability to sign players, the alternative of sending Danilo to Botafogo has emerged.

Both Lyon and Botafogo are under the Eagle Football umbrella, and Textor is actively working to find a suitable fit.

The challenge lies in Danilo’s lack of enthusiasm for a return to Brazil. The midfielder, who came through Palmeiras’ academy, holds strong affection for the club that developed him, and his entourage reportedly viewed the move to Lyon as more aligned with his career goals.

The same cannot be said about the possibility of joining Botafogo. The Rio-based side has been one of Palmeiras’ main domestic rivals in recent seasons, and move to a direct competitor could feel uncomfortable given his ties to his former club.

So far, Botafogo directors have not taken a direct role in the negotiation. The group’s priority remains trying to adjust Danilo into Lyon’s squad within their financial constraints.

Should that fail, a new round of talks may be necessary to convince the player to accept a move back to Brazilian football.
