Xavi Hernandez is travelling to Barcelona to take up a job as manager of the Catalan club, after a week which brought a lot of stress to the Blaugrana masses.

Al-Sadd weren’t prepared to simply give Xavi up and seemed to be unhappy with the way Barcelona had approached things. That saw the Qatar club release a statement saying their intention was to keep hold of their manager, not wanting to let him go at this stage of the season.

Barcelona were then encouraged to change their negotiating tact and the situation changed, which saw Xavi say goodbye to his colleagues in Doha, ahead of the role waiting for him at the Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Joan Laporta was in Galicia on Friday, with the Barcelona president meeting fans and officials in an event organised by Peña Barcelonista de Marín.

Mundo Deportivo report that during that meeting, the most newsworthy comment from the club president was telling fans that Barcelona ‘will be in a position to make three signings in January to reinforce the squad and try to aspire to win titles’.

Quite how those signings would be funded wasn’t explained, although it’s clear an addition is needed in attack, and the likelihood is that loan deals will be looked for.
