Former Watford manager Javi Gracia has admitted he still finds it ‘difficult’ to explain why the club sacked him.
The Spanish coach was removed from Vicarage Road back in September after the club had managed just one point from their first four games of the season.
His departure from the club came as something of a shock, despite their poor form, given Gracia had led Watford to the FA Cup final and 11th place the previous year.
Few understood Watford’s logic at the time, particularly as the club had handed him a four-year contract earlier in the year and had shown rapid signs of improvement during his reign.
Gracia was certainly caught by surprise at the decision, and admits he still struggles to find a reason for it.
“It is difficult for me to explain why,” he told SER Deportivos Málaga, relayed by El Desmarque.
“Everything I say is going to sound a little justification for the dismissal. I said at the time that I did not understand much.
“We started with bad results, and they decided on the fifth day that it should not continue.”
Gracia has been out of work since leaving the Hornets last year, with several potential returns to Spanish football all passing him by.
He has always maintained that he would like a second shot at success in England, having enjoyed his time at Watford.
That remains the case, with him admitting if something in England comes along, he will be happy to take it.
“If something comes out in England I would like to (return),” he added.
“And if not, we will return to Spain to see if any options come out.
“My headquarters is in Pamplona, but I am planning to have another headquarters in Malaga.”
