It’s fair to say that James Rodriguez’s growing love for answering questions on Twitch is not something that’s earning him many fans at Everton.
The midfielder, who clearly wants to get out of Goodison Park this summer, has been popping up on the platform for the last few weeks, making various comments about his situation and future.
The latest saw him admitting he didn’t even know who Everton were playing this weekend, a statement that’s not gone down well with anyone.
While Everton fans are fuming, so are those in his homeland, with former Colombia international Oscar Cordoba claiming the comments were ‘indefensible’.
Colombian website Las 2 Orillas continue along that thread in a comment piece on Rodriguez and his actions.
They label his love for Twitch ‘the addiction that is killing’ the midfielder, accusing him of ‘verbal incontinence’ and ‘burying himself’ with each and every statement.
The website questions how a man who swears that nothing is more valuable to him than his football career can then put it in doubt every time he gets out his ‘little camera’ playing video games.
They say watching him on Twitch is like watching a player who can’t do it on the pitch anymore so has to ‘gain followers’ through social media instead.
That is why he ‘stirs up controversy’ every time he opens his mouth, something that everyone is ‘getting tired of’ at this point.
Las 2 Orillas believe if he wants to be an influencer, he should leave football once and for all, especially given his latest comments showed that football and Everton really aren’t as important to him as he makes out.
Indeed, his bridges appear to be burned as it is, with Everton fans unlikely to forgive him and Colombia fans feeling the same way.
While there are fans who have faith in him, who believe in his footballing ability, it seems Rodriguez ‘wants to bury himself once and for all’ as a player and just continue appearing on camera to ‘lead a small team to glory in a video game’.
The website states that James ‘didn’t learn’ from the past, and he has let himself be ‘carried away’ by the world of video games and influencers, forgetting he’s a footballer in the process.
They argue that at this point, it’s not even worth thinking about whether Rodriguez will change teams this summer or have a place at Everton.
The real question is whether he will ever stop thinking he’s a Twitch star and, as in the past, work to be a football star once again.
