As far as Leeds United transfers go, Robin Koch has been a success for Marcelo Bielsa and the Elland Road club.

The German even managed to cement a spot for himself in the national team thanks to his performances at the Premier League club, and he’s hoping to be part of Joachim Löw’s squad for the upcoming Euros.

An injury kept him out for a number of months, putting his chances of featuring in the big tournament in doubt, but an early return and great form since has placed him back in contention.

The 24-year-old has been granting a few interviews of late, with Kicker the latest to sit down with Koch ahead of the last few games of the season, where they asked him to look back on his first year in England.

He said: “I have been very well prepared by Leeds United on a number of levels, and it turned out to be what I hoped for. The [transfer from Freiburg] was absolutely the right decision for me. I was able to develop enormously as a person, but above all also in terms of sports”.

Signing a four-year deal when he arrived at Elland Road, the centre-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, is under contract until 2024, meaning a transfer isn’t at the forefront of his mind these days.

Asked if he sees a long-term future at Leeds or if he’s looking ‘to move to a top club in the Premier League’, he replied: “I’ve only been here a year now, and I’m very satisfied. The club’s journey is far from over. Of course, you always have big goals, but at the moment my focus is entirely on Leeds United and the Euros”.

Since arriving in exchange for £11.7m, Koch has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, all of which came in the Premier League.
