Wilmar Barrios has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur since May. There’s been various claims in South America and England about the Boca Juniors player, and contradictions about his selling clause.
Some have it as low as €16m, whereas elsewhere it’s been reported as €25m, and it could be a case of Boca not owning all of the player, which would prove difficult in negotiations. Tottenham have been through similar transfer tests.
Now with his World Cup for Colombia behind him, Barrios has been welcomed home as a hero. All of Colombia’s squad have. There’s been public events, medals awarded, and the country are really using it to lift a nation.
Having been at the national level events, Barrios on Wednesday went to his home city Cartagena and was honoured there too.
Inevitably, the media asked Barrios about a possible exit from Boca Juniors and rumours he could be about to join Tottenham. Argentine newspaper Ole quote the midfielder as saying: “I like the Premier League, it’s a top league in the world, but I only think about Boca. I have been told that the Tottenham fans want me to go, but I do not know English yet, ha.”
That’s not ruling it in or out, but at least he likes the Premier League.
