Over the weekend, we covered a couple of reports about Amad Diallo’s impending move to Manchester United. The Premier League club agreed a deal for the player in the last window, with the plan being that he’d arrive in England as the January window opened.
That appears to be on track, with comments last week from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making it clear he wants the player quickly, and Gazzetta dello Sport reporting on Sunday that Diallo is expected to fly to Manchester on Monday.
What has also been a theme in recent days is Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini saying he wants to keep the 18-year-old until the end of the current season.
On Sunday, the Bergamo club beat Sassuolo 5-1, and after the match Gasperini spoke to the media.
Inevitably, Diallo came into the conversation, and the Atalanta manager was asked if his club will be able to keep the youngster. Quoted by TMW, he replied: “Let’s hope. I’ve launched the idea. If Manchester were forced to loan him out, maybe it would be better if he stayed with us again.”
Reading between the lines, it would appear Gasperini’s only hope is Manchester United failing to secure a work permit for Diallo in the current window.
