Last season was a bit of a strange one, with European competitions playing one game knockout rounds to cope with the Covid-19 crisis.
FC Copenhagen were among those in the latter stages of the Europa League, seeing off Istanbul Basaksehir to set up a quarter final clash against Manchester United.
The Red Devils were looking to win the competition, and with the stubborn Danish side standing in their way, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men had to dig deep to overcome their opponents as it took an extra-time winner from Portuguese messiah Bruno Fernandes to see the Premier League side through.
Among the Copenhagen team was Greece international Zeca, who previously played for Casa Pia and Vitoria Setubal in Portugal, and he recalled the clash for A Bola on Tuesday, revealing a dream of his in the process.
He said: “It’s a game that will forever remain in my memory against a team I’ve always liked a lot, because since I was a kid I had the idea of playing there. I made a dream come true when playing Manchester United, and at the same time Copenhagen went further in Europe.
“It was a milestone for my career and for the club. It was unforgettable. It caused a lot of anxiety and joy, and I don’t forget that I also received congratulations from Solskjaer. It was a funny conversation that came about spontaneously”.
He also talked about Bruno Fernandes, who has been key in Manchester United’s rejuvenation over the past year and a bit.
He added: “And of course, on the other side was Bruno, one of the best players today. It’s incredible how he makes the team play, how he sacrifices, how he defends and attacks, makes goals and assists. He is a leader on the field. He is world class”.
Since joining Manchester United from Sporting CP, the 26-year-old’s statistics have been simply mind boggling, as the attacking midfielder has scored 31 goals and assisted another 20 in 57 appearances in all competitions.
