Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa were the only two senior signings Liverpool carried out in the summer window. The goalkeeper has returned to Valencia on a loan deal, while the forward is yet to make his debut for the Reds.

Arne Slot’s side were credited with an interest in several other players, including Genoa’s Morten Frendrup. Back in July, the Italian media reported Liverpool’s keen interest in the 23-year-old.

It’s not clear whether Liverpool made an approach to sign the Denmark international,. He’s currently with the national team camp, and this gave the Danish press a chance to directly ask the midfielder about the reports linking him with a move to Liverpool. His quotes are relayed by Tipsbladet.

The website claims the Premier League side are ‘something very special’ for Frendrup, and he smiles when asked about the Anfield move rumours.

“It’s obviously a huge club, but it’s a long way from concrete interest. For me, it’s about doing as well as possible. So, everything else is up to my agent,” he said.

The player joined Genoa from Danish side Brøndby in 2022. Earlier this year, he signed a new deal until 2028. Despite being pleased with the exit links, Frendrup didn’t think about changing clubs in the summer window.

“I’m super happy to be at Genoa. I feel it’s a really good place to be, where I can develop and get a lot of playing time. It wasn’t in my thoughts to switch this summer,” Frendrup explained.

“It’s always nice to have interest, but it’s about doing as well as possible and then we’ll see what it brings.”

The Dane made 39 appearances in all competitions last season and has already played four matches this season.
