Manchester United loanee Antony took his goalscoring tally to seven in all competitions for Real Betis at the weekend.
The winger scored from a terrific curling shot in stoppage time against Espanyol, helping his team to a key 2-1 win.
With the Brazilian high on confidence, there has been talk about whether Manchester United will sanction another loan deal or not. Either way, Antony is clear that he is enjoying life in Spain and at Betis specifically.
He’s spoken to Jorge Valdano and was asked about his time at Real Betis. He replied, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo:
“I always say that the best decision I’ve ever made was coming to Betis. I’m happy, and when I’m happy, things go well.”
He emphasised on the idea of being happy and why it really matters to him right now.
“For me, of course, it’s important to score goals and provide assists, but being happy is even more important. I found myself here, I’m very happy here, and things are going very well.”
When asked about his future, Antony stated: “It’s very early; I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m very happy here. I’ve found myself enjoying football.
“It’s crazy right now, although I know how talented I am, so I prioritised going where I knew I’d be happy, even though I had better offers.”
This clearly suggests that the 25-year-old struggled during his time at Manchester United and that made him seek a destination where he would really enjoy himself, perhaps with less pressure.
His contract at Old Trafford runs out in the summer of 2027, and the Red Devils will have a major say in where Antony’s future lies.
Another loan deal at Real Betis would make sense for the Brazilian, who wants to play for Brazil at the World Cup in 2026. Playing where he feels fully settled will help him achieve that goal next year, but Manchester United probably want a transfer fee.
