Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has admitted he needs to be playing regularly and getting minutes under his belt to get back to his best.
Fotboll Skanalen cover comments from the defender today after he managed 90 minutes for his country for the first time in a year.
The centre-back has been suffering from injury issues that have left him out of contention for Manchester United and Sweden for some time.
There’s been an uptick in his fortunes over the last few weeks, though, as he’s started and finished both of Manchester United’s last two games and then added another 90 minutes for Sweden in their 5-1 win over Northern Ireland in this international break.
That was the first time he’d completed a game for his country in a year, and he admits it felt good to be back properly.
“It’s been a while. It felt good. It’s nice to play 90 minutes. I need minutes. We play with very high intensity in the national team so it’s fun to hold for 90 minutes,” he said.
“It’s tough and a demanding way to play football. But we have to do that, too. It still felt like we solved it well, but it’s a little different sometimes to be so high up.
“Sometimes it felt like you were pushing like a “tabia.” It was like “back in the day” when you played football, then you were higher up in the pitch.”
The question is whether Lindelof can continue to add minutes in the coming weeks, or he finds himself back out of the picture at Manchester United.
Given they currently have Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven all out injured the prospect of the 30-year-old continuing to feature under Amorim seems high.
